Volleyball: LC splits USA South matches with Piedmont and Covenant

DEMOREST, Ga. - LaGrange split USA South matches with Piedmont and Covenant on Saturday. The Panthers (7-9, 5-4 USA South) defeated Piedmont 3-1 before losing a 3-2 heart breaker to Covenant. 

The Panthers spotted Piedmont a 1-0 lead. They came back to take the next three sets to win the match, 18-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-21. Mimi Loftus led LC with 14 kills and added eight digs. Leigha Reynolds and Lauren Sanders each had double-doubles. Reynolds had 13 kills and a team-high 19 digs, while Saunders had 22 assists and 17 digs. Jazzlyn Kenner had 10 kills and three total blocks. Madison Lewis had 18 assists and Courtney Swafford finished with 17 digs.

LC took the first two sets against Covenant, 25-15 and 25-23. But the Scots rallied, taking the final three sets 25-23, 25-22, and 15-1 to win the match. It was the second time the Panthers have lost in five sets to the Scots. Loftus led LC with a career-high 17 kills, while Kenner added 13 kills. Sanders had another double-double with 25 assists and 17 digs. Swafford had a season-high 34 digs.

The Panthers host Brevard and Maryville in a USA South tri-match next Sunday.
