Volleyball: Jazzlyn Kenner leads LC past Brevard and Maryville at USA South tri-match

BREVARD, N.C. - Junior middle blocker Jazzlyn Kenner led LaGrange to wins over Brevard and Maryville in a USA South tri-match Saturday. The victories evened the Panthers' conference record at 2-2 and upped their overall record to 4-7.

"Today was a special day. The girls fought so hard in practice this past week to prepare for our matches against Brevard and Maryville.," said Coach Madison Machurek. "We had game plans and the girls followed them to the T."

Kenner had 33 kills and 12 total blocks in the two matches. She had a match and career-high 20 kills in the 3-1 win over Brevard. Kenner had an attack percentage of .500 and had nine block assists. Paeton Robinson had a double-double of 10 kills and 10 assists, while posting a .600 attack percentage. The Panthers finished with a season-high .283 attack percentage. Lauren Sanders had 33 assists, while Courtney Swafford had a match-high 17 digs. The Panthers won the match by scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-17, 25-9. 

The Panthers followed with their first ever 3-0 sweep of Marville, winning 25-20, 25-21, and 25-17.. After 40 straight losses to the Scots, the Panthers have the last two meetings. Kenner and Mimi Loftus combined for 23 kills for LC. Kenner had a match-high 13 kills and finished with a .417 attack percentage. Loftus had a .450 attack percentage with her 10 kills. Sanders and Robinson combined for 25 assists, with Sanders leading the way with 14. Swafford and Robinson each had nine digs. 

"The Jazz Kenner and Lauren Sanders duo was big time for us and created momentum and passion for the squad," said Machurek. "The bench contributed a lot of energy and pushed our team to play hard each point. Defense has been our strongest point  throughout the season but our offense absolutely matched it today. We as coaches are so proud and there's no doubt that the future is bright if we keep climbing the mountain."

The Panthers host Huntingdon on Thursday, Oct. 4 in a USA South match.
