DECATUR, Ga. - LaGrange topped Berea and Agnes Scott at a USA South tri-match Saturday. The wins helped the Panthers (9-9, 2-3 USA South) end a six-match losing streak.
"The girls worked really hard this week in practice for these two big conference wins," said Coach Madison Machurek. "We focused on defense, side out efficiency and dialed down on our errors. I'm proud of the heart and desire they came back with after some tough losses during the last few weeks of conference play.
"This is a very talented group of young women and I can't wait to see the continual development throughout the rest of our season."
The Panthers avenged an earlier loss to host Agnes Scott in the final match of the day. The Panthers took the first set 25-22 before the Scotties evened the match with a hard-fought 32-30 win in the second set.
LC took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-22 third set win. The Panthers closed out the match with a 25-12 victory in the fourth set, registering a .314 attack percentage. They set team season highs in the match with 57 kills and 111 digs.
Senior Maggie Ivestor had a double-double of 12 kills and a career-high 28 digs. Emily Arnold matched Ivester with 12 kills. Lauren Sanders had her second double-double of the day with 31 assists and 14 digs. Cierra Terry added 26 digs.
In the first match of the day, the Panthers swept Berea 25-19, 25-17, and 25-22. Jazzlyn Kenner led LC with a match-high 12 kills. Sanders had 17 assists and digs each, while Madison Correll added four service aces and 14 digs.
The Panthers host Judson on Monday in a non-conference match at 6 p.m.
