DEMOREST, Ga. - LaGrange's 2011 season ended with a loss to Piedmont in the semifinals of the GSAC Championship Tournament at the Johnny Mize Center on Friday. The Panthers ended their season 17-15, the first winning season since 2005.
The Panthers had opened the tournament Friday with a 3-0 sweep of Spelman. The Panthers won the match by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-11 over the Jaguars (8-14).
Freshman Ashley Corona led the Panthers with a match-high 12 kills. Katie Covington recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs. Crystal Colvin had a match-high 21 digs, while Erin McKinstry added a match-high 36 assists.
In the semifinals, the Panthers fell to the Lady Lions (22-13) by a 3-0 score. All three sets were decided by two points, as the Lady Lions took the match by scores of 25-23, 26-24 and 25-23.
Colvin, the Panthers' only senior, had a match-high 20 digs in her final match. McKinstry finished with a match-high 35 assists.
