Panthers sweep Spelman to open GSAC play

The Panthers took the match by scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21. The Panthers broke a 5-5 tie in the first set with a 12-1 run to take control. The Panthers never trailed in the second set. The 25-16 final score was the largest lead of the set for the Panthers. The Jaguars tied the third set at 20 before the Panthers scored five of the last six points to close out the match.

Sarah Newland led a balanced attack for the Panthers. Newland tied with Spelman's Ashley Rogers for game honors with six kills. Connie Russell had five kills and Hannah Brooks four. Kayla Black had team highs of 21 assists and nine kills.

The Panthers host GSAC foe Piedmont along with Berry on Saturday. Match times are noon and 4 p.m.
