The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2019 Academic Awards. In all, All-Academic honors were awarded to 940 teams and thousands of scholar-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis were honored. The LaGrange women earned their sixth ITA All-Academic Team award in the past seven years. LC and Brevard College were the only women's teams in the USA South conference to receive the honor.
The Panthers had five of their six starters named ITA Scholar Athletes. Senior Jenna Eppes, sophomore Nicole Phillips, along with freshmen Callaway Cook, Ansley Moody, and Makayla Red were named. It is the second straight year for Eppes to receive the honor.
"I'm very proud of this team and the success they had on the court and in the classroom," said Coach Matt Donnett. "Juggling a full academic calendar with the rigors of playing a collegiate sport for two semesters is very demanding."
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
