BREVARD, N.C. - Brevard broke open a tight game in the second half and went on to a 5-0 win over LaGrange on Friday in a USA South game. The loss left the Panthers 4-7-1 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Freshman goalkeeper Emma Smith had 16 saves in the game for LC, 14 coming in the first half. It was the most saves by a Panther goalkeeper since Laura Webber had 16 at Maryville on Oct. 3, 2009. Brevard (8-5, 4-2 USA South) got a first half goal from Megan Shina to lead 1-0. In the second half, Ashley Hughes and Hannah Weatherall each scored twice to break the game open for the Tornados.
The Panthers play at Covenant on Saturday in a USA South contest.
