MARION, Ala. - Freshman Zoe Watts scored four goals in her collegiate debut as LaGrange rolled past Judson 5-0 on Friday night to open the 2018 season. It was the first opening game win since also defeating Judson to start the 2014 season.
Watts' four goals were the most by a LaGrange player since Sydney Dorsey had five against Oakwood in 2013. Watts got her first goal four minutes into the game. She scored off an assist from fellow freshman Dynasty Burchett for a quick 1-0 lead.
The Panthers broke the game open with a four-goal burst in a 10 minute span in the second half. Burchett put the Panthers up 2-0 in the 75th minute with an assist from Watts. Watts added two more goals off assists from Carolyn Harkness. She finished the scoring with a breakaway goal for the 5-0 score. Freshman goalkeeper Emma Smith faced only three shots in the game.
The five goals in the game were more than the Panthers scored during the 2017 season and most since beating Mary Baldwin 5-0 in 2015. LC plays at Millsaps on Sunday.
