Women's Soccer: Panthers edge Agnes Scott in shootout thriller

LaGrange advanced to the GSAC tournament semifinals with a thrilling shootout first round win over Agnes Scott at Panther Field. The fourth-seeded and tournament host Panthers (7-11-1) face top-seeded Maryville on Friday at 11 a.m.

The two teams played 110 scoreless minutes for the game to come down to a penalty kick shootout. The Panthers had opportunities in regulation and the overtime periods but came away empty as Agnes Scott goalkeeper Ashley Watts made six saves in the game.

In the shootout, the Panthers went first and Watts stopped Angie Forero's shot. Anna Fernandez beat Panther goalkeeper Chelsea Totaro to give the Scotties a 1-0 edge. Hope Sims tied it for the Panthers with her attempt.

Kylie Flynn put the Scotties up 2-1 but Mary Robertson answered for the Panthers to tie it a second time. The Panthers seized momentum as Maddie Shaul's shot went wide of the goal and Brittany Gray scored to put the Panthers up 3-2.

Totaro stopped Clara Kienzle's shot and then set up to take the final kick for the Panthers. Totaro stuck the ball in the upper right corner of the goal to give the Panthers the win.

The Panthers had controlled much of the game with a 17-6 shot advantage. They had a 6-4 shot on goal edge, but Watts stopped kept the Panthers out of the goal with six saves. Totaro had four saves for the Panthers.
