Women's Basketball: Panthers face Maryville in first round of USA South tournament

The LaGrange women's basketball team goes on the road tonight at 7 p.m. to face Maryville in the first round of the USA South Tournament. It marks the sixth time in the last seven seasons the two teams have met in the conference tournament.

"We are excited to be playing in the USA South Conference Tournament for the seventh straight year. Our team has worked hard all year for this opportunity," said Coach Lee Buchanan. "Our seniors, Marilauren (Farr) and Riley (Chlupacek), have been very successful in their careers playing for the Panthers. I am hopeful that we can string together several wins in the playoffs to keep their careers going".

Farr leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She needs one rebound to become the school's career rebound leader. Sophomore Jahpera McEachin is averaging 9.9 points per game. McEachin leads the team in 3-point field goals made (34) and steals (41). Junior Sadie Desroches leads the team with 69 assists and is averaging 6.8 points per game.

The two teams split the regular season meetings. Maryville (12-13, 10-6 USA South) won 78-55 on Dec. 1 in Maryville. The Panthers (13-12, 7-9 USA South) broke a 12-game losing streak to the Scots with a 71-59 win Feb. 10.

The winner of tonight's game plays at Averett on Saturday at 2 p.m.
