Women's Basketball: Piedmont prevails over Panthers in overtime

LaGrange took Piedmont to overtime before falling 73-70 on Wednesday in Mariotti Gym. The loss left the Panthers 10-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The Lady Lions (17-3, 11-0 USA South) won their 11th straight game to remain perfect in conference play.

"A really hard fought game tonight with Piedmont. We showed tremendous effort and fight, especially in the second half, we just came up a little short," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "Every player that got in the game tonight have us a boost. The team did a great job sticking to the game plan and we had a chance to win at the end. I thought we did a lot of good things tonight and if we will keep working and continue to play with that type of energy and passion we will be fine. 

"It's hard when you lose but I am proud of our team and their fighting spirit."

Marilauren Farr led LC with 22 points, 18 coming after halftime. Jahpera McEachin added 14 points. Piedmont got a game-high 28 points from Amari Price and 17 from Jatasia Bailey.

Piedmont won the first meeting between the teams 80-57 on Jan. 2. The Lady Lions led 33-18 at haltime. The Panthers chipped away at the lead, getting within six points before trailing 52-43 heading to the final period. Farr sank a short jumper to give LC its first lead of the game, 60-59, with seven seconds left in regulation. Price made the second of two free throws to tie the game at 60 and send the game to overtime. In the exra period. the lead swapped three times. Farr scored inside for LC's last lead, 65-64, with 2:12 left. The Lady Lions regained the lead and held off the Panthers by making enough free throws for the 73-70 final.

The Panthers play at USA South rival Huntingdon on Saturday.
