Women's Basketball: Piedmont beats Panthers 80-57 in USA South game

DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont beat LaGrange 80-57 in a USA South game Wednesday. The loss left the Panthers 5-6 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. The Lady Lions remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0 and upped their season record to 10-3. 

"We ran into a buzzsaw tonight. Piedmont played very good and it was hard for us to match their intensity," said Coach Lee Buchanan. "We have to keep working hard each day in practice and keep getting better."

Jahpera McEachin led LC with 13 points. Sadie Desroches added 8 points and Sarah Evans had 7. Charley Amissah-Reyes tied for game honors with 8 rebounds.

 Piedmont used two big runs in the first half to take control of the game. The Lady Lions broke a 5-5 tie early in the game with a 15-0 run and led 21-11 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, McEachin's two free throws got the Panthers within seven, 29-22. But Piedmont finished the half on a 21-5 spurt to lead 50-27 at halftime. LC played the Lady Lions on even terms in the second half. The Panthers got within 15 in the third quarter but got no closer.

The Panthers host Brevard on Friday at 6 p.m. and Covenant on Saturday at 4 p.m. in USA South contests.
