Oglethorpe downed short-handed LaGrange 62-36 Sunday in the USA South/SAA Classic at Mariotti Gym. The Panthers are now 4-2, while the Stormy Petrels improved to 6-1.

"A really tough game today against a very talented Oglethorpe team," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "They took us out of everything we wanted to do offensively in the first half. I was proud of our team for continuing to work and play hard the entire game.

"We did some good things in the second half and we played much better. We will learn from this and be a better team because of this game."

The Panthers played without their leading scorer and rebounder Marilauren Farr, who missed the game due to illness. Oglethorpe held LC to just three baskets and a pair of free throws in building a 41-8 halftime lead. The Panthers regrouped in the second half, outscoring the Stormy Petrels 28-21. Jahpera McEachin led the Panthers with six points.

The Panthers play USA South games at Berea and Maryville next Friday and Saturday.
