Women's Basketball: Strong final quarter carries Panthers past Berry 51-42

LaGrange used a strong final quarter to down Berry 51-42 in the USA South/SAA Classic on Saturday in Mariotti Gym. The win upped the Panthers' record to 4-1.

"I was really pleased with our team today. They worked super hard together and played som terrific defense," said Coach Lee Buchanan. "The game was ugly at times but it sure is a pretty win.

"I thought we got quality contributions by everyone. We made some big stops on the defensive end and had some timely shots at key moments in the game."

Sadie Desroches and Mykelli Taylor each had 11 points for LC. Marilauren Farr had nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds. 

The Panthers trailed 33-28 with less than a minute left in the third quarter. Taylor had a layup and a game-tying 3-pointer off assists from Jahpera McEachin to make it 33-33 going to the final period.

Sarah Evans scored at the outset of the fourth quarter to put LC ahead to stay, 35-33. McEachin's two free throws gave the Panthers their largest lead, 51-40, with 15 second left.

The Panthers face Oglethorpe on Sunday at 2 p.m. in their final game of the tournament.
