Women's Basketball: Pensacola Christian hands Panthers first loss of season

LaGrange suffered its first loss of the season, falling 62-51 to Pensacola Christian on Friday in its own LaGrange College Classic.

The Panthers (2-1) got a game-high 15 points from Daijah Cousins. Cousins was 6-of-9 shooting from the floor in the game. Marilauren Farr had her second double-double in three games, finishing with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Jessica Boyd's 13 points led Pensacola Christian with 13 points.

"This was a really disappointing game for us tonight," said Coach Lee Buchanan. "We were flat after playing so hard last night and couldn't get it going in the first half. I give credit to Pensacola, they played tough and took us out of our game."

Pensacola (7-3) led 33-22 at halftime. The Panthers chippped away at the deficit in the third quarter. Cousins made a pair of free throws to tie the game at 38 with less than two minutes remaining in the period. Megan English's two free throws gave the Panthers their first lead of the game, 40-39, with 1:12 left. The Lady Eagles took the lead for good on a jumper by Boyd and led 43-40 heading to the final period. LC was able to get within a point on a Riley Chlupacek trey, but could never catch Pensacola down the stretch.

"I thought we showed a lot of heart coming back to take the lead in the third quarter but we couldn't finish the game strong," Buchanan said. "Daijah gave us a terrific lift tonight and I was happy for her. We need that kind of effort out of multiple players tomorrow for out third game in three days."

The Panthers close out the tournament Saturday against Welch at 4 p.m.
