PENSACOLA, Fla. - LaGrange opened its 2018-19 season with an 80-49 romp over Judson on Friday night at Pensacola Christian College.
Senior Marilauren Farr led LC with a game-high 21 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Sadie Desroches and sophomore Charley Amissah-Reyes each had 10 points. Amissah-Reyes also had seven rebounds and two blocks.
"I was really pleased with our effort tonight, especially on the defensive end," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "We are very much a work in progress with only 19 practices but we are getting better each day.
"I was happy we could get all the players in the game and have them contribute. Marilauren was really good early in the game and did a lot of good things for us. Charley played her best college basketball game of her career tonight. Good win for the team and our confidence. We just have to keep working hard and learning before we play again."
The Panthers never trailed in the game. They scored the game's first 12 points and led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter. Judson closed within nine points in the second quarter, but the Panthers pushed their lead to 12 at halftime, 40-28. Farr had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the half. LC blew the game open in the third quarter. The Panthers outscored the Eagles 27-8 in the period to open up a 67-35 lead.
LC shot 51.5 percent in the game. The Panthers out rebounded the Eagles 44-27 and forced 23 turnovers.
The Panthers host their own LaGrange College Classic on Nov. 15-17. LC will play Bob Jones, Pensacola Christian, and Welch in the tournament.
