The LaGrange women's basketball team is seventh in the USA South West Division coach's poll as released by the conference office. The Panthers are coming off an 11-15 season, including a 4-12 mark in conference play.
Lee Buchanan is entering his sixth season as LC's head coach. He has a 79-55 record with the Panthers, and is 455-283 in 26 years as a head coach. Buchanan has six returners and 11 newcomers for the 2018-19 season.
Senior Marilauren Farr was second on the team last year in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. She led the team in rebounding with 7.1 per game. Fellow senior Riley Chlupacek averaged 8.2 points per game and led the team with 55 3-pointers.
In the West Division, Berea College is picked to defend its division title. The Mountaineers received 62 total points and six first place votes. Placing second in the poll with 57 points and the remaining three first place votes was two-time defending USA South Tournament champion Piedmont College. In third with 47 points was Maryville College while Huntingdon College placed fourth with 41 points to round out the top-four of the poll.
The 2019 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament will once again be conducted exclusively on campus sites. The top-six seeded teams from each division will advance to the tournament.
The Panthers open the 2018-19 season Nov. 10 against Judson (Ala.) with the game being played at Pensacola, Florida.
