FRANKLIN, Ga. - The LaGrange swim teams competed at the Emmanuel College Invitational on Saturday. The men finished third and the teams combined to place fifth in the meet.
"It was a great meet we had tons of personal best, as well as a school record being broken, and a third place finish by the men," said Coach Devin James. "As a coach I couldn't of hoped for a better first meet. I believe this meet sets a great tone for what you can expect from the Lagrange College swim team this year. "
Freshman Connor Cochran broke the school 1,000-yard freestyle record. Connor finished second in the event with a time of 10:47.46. He was also third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.82, with teammate Gabe Griffith fourth at 6:37.91. Sophomore David Edmonson was third in the 100 backstroke in a time of 58.09 and third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.93. Freshman Craig Kennedy had fourth place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:02.70) and 100 freestyle (52.99). The 200 medley relay team of Edmondson, Cochran, Kennedy, and Tim Garnett was third in a time of 1:46.84.
For the women, freshman Gracen Brantley was eighth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:34.69. Freshman Emily O'Neil was eighth also in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:32.38. Senior Lyllie Menjivar-Couch and freshman Sophia Smokowicz also competed for the Panthers in the meet.
The teams will be in the Sewanee Invitational on Oct. 26-27.
