Cassandra Wendall has been named LaGrange College's new Aquatics Director and Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach. Wendall comes to LaGrange from Sewanee (University of the South), where she was the assistant swimming and diving coach and aquatics director.
"We are very excited to have Cassandra as our new swim coach," said Athletic Director Jennifer Claybrook. "She has experience on the NCAA Division III level and a proven record of success as a coach and recruiter. Cassandra is enthusiastic, determined and focused in her coaching."
Recruiting was an important part of Wendall's coaching duties at Sewanee. The Tigers' swim program is expecting its largest and most talented class of incoming first-year swimmers and divers.
"I'm thrilled to begin a tradition of excellence in swimming and diving at LaGrange College, and grateful to Jennifer Claybrook for this opportunity," Wendall said. "I aspire to build and sustain a program that honors and supports the history and success of the college and becomes an integral part of a growing athletic department."
Wendall was an assistant swim coach at the University of Mount Union before Sewanee. At Mount Union, she helped with recruiting an incoming class to replace a group of 20 seniors. Wendall helped guide the Mount Union women to their second-straight conference swim meet title. She also assisted with training a distance swimmer for the Division III national meet.
Wendall swam for NCAA Division II member Lake Erie College for four years. She served as a team leader her senior year and earned Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic honors. She specialized in the 400-yard individual medley, 200 butterfly and the distance events. She also has worked at the Hartwick Swim Camp as a counselor and instructor.
Wendall graduated from Lake Erie with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She also served on the college's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as the financial advisor and the representative for the swimming team for four years
She is a native of Lafayette, Indiana, and has coached with the McCutcheon Swim Club for 10 years, with Maverick Aquatics for two years and as a volunteer assistant coach for McCutcheon High School.
