Swimming: Panthers finish strong at Appalachian Swimming Conference meet

The LaGrange swim teams finished the 2012-13 season with a strong showing at the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships. The Panther swimmers set seven new team relay records and nine individual team records in the meet.

Senior Devin James was the team's Swimmer of the Meet. James overcame obstacles to get to the meet and set a new personal best in the 100-yard freestyle. James also was part of the 800-freestyle relay team which set a new team record of 8:56.88.

Freshmen Mitchell Cross and Ben Fuller were the men's High Point leaders. Haley Dent and Leslie Rhoades were the High Point leaders for the women.

Cross set five new team individual records. He had record times in the 100 yard butterfly and, 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Cross also set records swimming the 50 and 100 freestyle leadoff as part of the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Fuller had team records in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle events. Fuller, Cross, Will Scruggs and Blaker Shuler set team records in the 200 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 medley relay events.

The relay team of Cross, Scruggs, Shuler and David Teske set a new team mark in the 200 freestyle event. Fuller, Teske and Joe Strickland joined James on the record-setting 800 freestyle relay team.

Dent set new women's individual records in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. Dent, Rhoades, Madison Brasselle, and Becky Roberston set new team records in the 200 and 400 medley and the 400 freestyle relay events. Dent, Rhoades, Robertson and Mary Robertson had a team record in the 200 freestyle relay event.
