ATLANTA, Ga. - Emory took a doubleheader from LaGrange on Tuesday. The Eagles (22-8) won the first game 4-0, then completed the sweep with a 2-1 victory in the second game.
Sophomore Chelsea Twardoski (6-10) went the distance on the mound for LC (13-25) in the second game. She scattered six hits, walked two, and struck out two. At the plate, Twardoski had two of the Panthers' four hits and drove in the lone run. Emory got both of their runs in the second inning. The Panthers got a run back in the top of the third. Kayleigh Faircloth walked and moved over to third on a sacrifice by Carolyn Harkness and a base hit from Emily Barrs. Faircloth came home on Twardoski's single to make it 2-1. Audrey Weller (W, 3-1) went 5-1/3 innings to get the win. Jacqueline Spizizen closed out the game for her third save of the season.
Spizizen (14-4) threw a one-hitter in the first game, allowing only a first inning single by Barrs. She retired the final 20 batters in a row. Emily Cauldwell (7-13) pitched a complete game for the Panthers. She allowed the four runs, only three were earned, did not walk a batter and struck out two.
The Panthers host Agnes Scott in a doubleheader Thursday starting at 5 p.m.
