Visiting Birmingham-Southern took a non-conference doubleheader from LaGrange on Wednesday at the LC Softball Complex. BSC (23-10) swept the Panthers (13-19) by scores of 6-2 and 7-3.
In the first game, LC was held to three hits by BSC's Haley Crumpton (20-3). Sutton Bridges' two-run single in the fourth inning accounted for the Panthers' scoring. Emily Barrs' double and a bunt single from Carolyn Harkness were the other two hits. Emily Cauldwell (7-10) threw the first four innings, allowing three runs, two earned. Josey Wessel pitched the final three innings, allowing three runs.
The Panthers fell behind 3-0 after an inning in the second game. Brittany Todd cut the deficit to a run with a two-run home run in the third. It was Todd's third of the season. BSC scored four runs over the next three innings to build a 7-2 lead. The Panthers closed out the scoring in their half of the seventh on Harkness' infield hit. Chelsea Twardoski (6-7) took the loss, giving up four runs in four innings. Jessica Perkins gave up three runs, two earned, in the final three innings.
LC hosts Covenant in the first round of the USA South Tournament. The best of three series starts with a doubleheader Friday. Game times are 1 and 3 p.m. The if necessary game is Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner advances to next week's tournament which is part of the USA South Spring Festival.
