MACON, Ga. - LaGrange swept away Wesleyan by identical 8-2 scores in a USA South doubleheader Friday. The Panthers improved their conference record to 7-3, while upping their season mark to 9-15. Wesleyan is now 6-14 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
"I am so proud of our team for how they are stepping up and coming together," said Coach Jennifer Claybrook. "After playing a number of tough games in the last few weeks and having to overcome key injuries, I am thrilled to see our determination and perseverance pay off with these conference wins. We got excellent pitching from Emily Cauldwell and Chelsea Twardowski. The theme of the day was getting solid defense and key hits."
Senior first baseman Taylor Tallant continued her hot hitting. She was 5-for-8 with a run scored and five RBIs in the two games. Over the last 10 games, Tallant is batting .484 with a home run and 14 RBIs. Junior Sydney Hodorff was 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs. The Panthers had 12 hits in each game, finishing the day with seven extra base hits. Tallant had two doubles, while Hodorff, Sutton Bridges, and Brittany Todd all had one. Hodorff and Twadoski each had a triple. Madison Martin had a pinch-hit two-run single in the first game.
Cauldwell (6-7) and Twardoski (3-6) each had complete games. Cauldwell scattered six hits in the first game, walking two and striking out five. In the second game, Twardoski did not walk a batter, struck out two and surrendered seven hits. At the plate, she helped herself with two hits, including the triple, and had two RBIs.
