LaGrange rallied in the second game to beat Belhaven 7-3 to gain a split of its season-opening doubleheader. The Panthers dropped the first game 9-4.
The visiting Blazers took a 3-0 lead off Chelseas Twardoski in the first inning of the second game. From there, Twardoski (1-0) allowed only three hits over the final six innings.
The Panthers answered with three runs in their half of the first. Sydney Hodorff's two-run single tied the game. McKenzie's Brunel's double in the second inning put LC up to stay. Emily Barrs gave the Panthers a four-run cushion with a three-run home run in the sixth to make it 7-3.
LC made the most out of their five hits in the game. Belhaven pitching issued eight walks in the game.
The Blazers built a 9-0 lead after three innings in the first game. The Panthers scored the final four runs of the game. Katelin Richardson had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Maegan Harrison also had a double.
The Panthers play Judson in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
