MARYVILLE, Tenn. - LaGrange gained a split of its USA South doubleheader with a 3-2 Game 2 win Saturday. The Panthers are now 4-12 on the season and 3-5 in conference play.
Maryville (14-4, 5-1 USA South) won the first game 9-0 in six innings before the Panthers bounced back to hand the Scots their first conference loss.
Freshman Chelsea Twardoski (4-5) pitched a complete game in the second game. She allowed the two runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out two.
LaGrange did all of its scoring in the first inning. Twardoski singled with one out and moved up to second on a ground out. Emily Barrs drove in Twardoski with a single and later scored on an error. Adrienne Little capped the inning with a run-scoring single to drive in Sydney Hodorff for a 3-0 lead.
The Panthers carried the lead into the sixth inning. The Scots pushed across two runs in the inning to make it a 3-2 game. Twardoski allowed a lead off single in the seventh but stranded the tying run at third to close out the win.
LC had six hits in the game. Barrs had two of the hits, including a double.
The Panthers host Greensboro and Averett next Saturday and Sunday in USA South doubleheaders.
