Softball: Sixth-ranked Birmingham-Southern takes two from Panthers

Sixth-ranked Birmingham-Southern took a doubleheader from LaGrange on Wednesday at the LC Softball Complex. BSC (31-6) edged the Panthers (13-20) 2-1 in the first game and completed the sweep with a 7-0 win in the second game.

Dani Gravett (8-8) went the distance in the first game. She allowed a run in the first and an unearned run in the third. Gravett scattered five hits, while walking six and striking out one.

The Panthers got their run in the sixth inning. They loaded the bases with two outs as Kalin Oglesby reached on a fielder's choice, followed by back-to-back walks to Alison Jiles and Gravett. Brooke Turner singled up the middle to score Jiles, but Gravett was thrown out at home on a close play for the third out.

Turner's hit was one of only two in the game for the Panthers. Carolyn Harkness' bunt single to lead off the third was the other.

In the second game, Kara Patterson (3-5) took the loss. Patterson worked into the fourth inning before being relieved by Emily Caudwell, who finished the game.

The Panthers had three hits in the game, two of them were doubles by Jiles and Oglesby.
