Panthers reach .500 with sweep of Agnes Scott

The Panthers pounded out 28 hits in the two games. Holly Hazelwood went 5-for-7 in the doubleheader with five runs scored. Katie Ison drove in five runs; four in the second game and had four hits. Shanna Brumbelow had four RBIs in the second game, while Hanna Patterson was 3-for-3 in the first game.

Brumbelow (3-1) pitched three innings to get the win in the first game. She did not allow a hit, walked one and struck out two. Danielle LaDuron pitched the final two innings to close out the game.

The Panthers gave Brumbelow all the runs she would need in the first inning. The Panthers scored eight runs in the inning on eight hits. Ison drove in the first two runs with a triple. Kayla Folds had a run-scoring double in the inning as the Panthers sent 11 batters to the plate.

In the third, the Panthers added two more runs. Patterson and Hazelwood both reached on singles. Ison drove in both runners with a single up the middle to make it 10-0.

The Panthers closed out the scoring in the fourth inning. Folds led off the inning with a double to left center. Patterson drove in Folds one out later with a base hit for the 11-1 final. The game ended on the 8-run mercy rule after five innings.

The Scotties (3-15, 0-2 GSAC) came back from two-run and three-run deficits to tie the Panthers at 5-5. The Panthers broke the tie with two runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to go up 11-5.

In the fourth, Katie Hein was hit by a pitch and Hazelwood reached on a bunt single to start the inning. Both runners moved up as Ison grounded out to second. Valeree Williams' base hit scored Hein with the go-ahead run. Hazelwood later scored on Brumbelow's sacrifice fly to make it 7-5.

The Panthers added four insurance runs in the fifth inning. Kayla Yeargin started the inning with a single and Kayla Folds walked. After the runners moved up on a wild pitch, Hein singled to left, driving in both runners to make it 9-5. Williams later added an RBI single and Hazelwood scored on an error to up the lead to 11-5.

Folds (3-4) got the win in relief of Kristen Woodard. Folds pitched two innings, allowing two unearned runs. Woodard pitched four innings, allowing five runs and nine hits. Brumbelow pitched a scoreless inning.

The Panthers are scheduled to play at Emory in a doubleheader Sunday.
