Men's Tennis: John Mitchell Benton receives athletic department's Eagle Award

The LaGrange College Athletic Department presented academic awards to student-athletes for the 2018-19 academic year in ceremonies Thursday in Callaway Auditorium.

Senior men's tennis player John Mitchell Benton was presented the Eagle Award. The award is given to the year's outstanding male and female athletes.

The award reads: "For Outstanding Efforts—You have accepted the challenge to soar above the world and to succeed where others might falter. You have been decisive where others have hesitated.  You are recognized as a leader for your efforts.  Truly, you are an inspiration like the Majestic Eagle."

Benton has been a four-year letterman for the men's tennis team. He has a 3.7 GPA and majoring in history with a minor in coaching and political science. This season, he played at #2 singles and #1 doubles. Benton was a first team USA South All-Conference and West Division selection.

Benton has been the Student Athlete Advisory Council president, representing LC at the USA South/NCAA Division III National Convention. He has been a Senior Residential Advisor and a Residential Advisor. Benton is the Delta Tau Delta Recruitment Chair and Sergeant-at-Arms, along with the being the Sponsorship Coordinator of the LaGrange College Campus Circle. He has spent time with children with learning disabilities at Discovery Cottage among the many service opportunities he has participated in.
