ROME, Ga. – Freshman midfielder Blake Webb of the LaGrange College men's soccer team continued his outstanding year with a two-assist effort on Saturday at USA South-foe Pfeiffer, and as a result, he earned USA South Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season from the conference office on Monday.
Webb picked up his sixth and seventh assists of the year in a 4-3 win against the Falcons, as the win secured the Panthers' third-consecutive playoff berth. The 16 USA South points are the most in program history for LaGrange (6-10-1, 5-7-1 USA South).
Webb assisted on the Panthers' third tally of the game in the 56th minute, as the team took a 3-0 lead on a perfectly executed give-and-go exchange between senior midfielder Errick Sturm and Webb. Additionally, the freshman standout assisted on Sturm's game-winner in the 66th minute, giving LaGrange a 4-1 lead with a pass along the sidelines.
Webb was also recognized as the conference's Rookie of the Week on Oct. 7, as he accumulated a three-goal week. He scored his first-career, game-winning tally in the 98th minute during his first-career, two-goal game in a 2-1 overtime win at Piedmont on Oct. 1.
The first-year collegiate player leads the team in assists (7), while ranking second in points (17) and in a tie for second in goals (5). The seven assists are tied for the fifth most in the USA South. Webb has registered at least one point in eight of 17 games this fall.
Fourth-seeded LaGrange will take on top-seeded Covenant in the first round of the USA South Tournament on Saturday in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, with game time to be determined.
