ROME, Ga. – Freshman goalkeeper Lucas Wright of the LaGrange College men's soccer team was named USA South Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week on Monday, as he tallied a career-high 11 saves during a 1-1 draw with visiting William Peace on Sunday.
The weekly conference award is the first of Wright's collegiate career, as he guided the Panthers to a 1-0-1 week in conference action with 200 minutes of strong goalkeeping.
During the 1-1 tie against the Pacers, he made a clutch diving save 11:34 into the second half and another one with 19:47 remaining, allowing the Panthers to equalize the score at 1-1 on Asher Hendon's goal in the 85th minute.
Wright (2-2-1) earned his second collegiate win, stopping four of five shots during a 3-1 triumph over Averett on Saturday at Panther Field. He kept the game scoreless with a difficult stop on a rocket with 6:23 left in the first half by Johnny Kummander.
In total, the first-year collegiate player stopped 15 of 17 shots over the weekend for LaGrange. He boasts the sixth-best, goals-against average mark in the conference (1.30), while sitting in a tie for fifth in saves (33).
