Men's Soccer: Panthers clinch berth in USA South tournament with 2-1 win over Averett

DANVILLE, Va. - LaGrange clinched a berth in the USA South Tournament with a 2-1 win over Averett on Saturday. The Panthers improved to 10-6 overall and evened their conference record at 5-5.

LC also secured its first winning season since 1993, which was also the last time the Panthers had double-digit wins. The five USA South wins are the most in a season since joining the conference.

After a scorless first half, Errick Sturm broke the tie with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute. It was his third goal of the season. Five minutes later, Adam Curry got his fifth goal of the season off an assist from Jude McEvoy to put the Panthers up 2-0. The Cougars got a goal in the 80th minute to make it 2-1 but the Panthers held on to the lead to close out the game.

The Panthers play East Division-leading Greensboro on Sunday.
