LaGrange opened the 2018 season with a 4-1 win over visiting Belhaven on Saturday night. The Panthers (1-0) got two goals from Jude McEvoy in the victory.
The Panthers made the most of only 8 shots in the game. McEvoy opened the scoring with a spectacular goal. Nick Huberty sent a crossing pass across the goal and McEvoy executed a perfect scissors kick to put the in the net for a 1-0 lead.
Andrew Valbuena forced a turnover and made the Blazers pay for the mistake. Valbuena sent a through ball to McEvoy, who easily beat the goalkeeper for his second of the game. Eric Curry pushed the Panthers lead to 3-1 with a goal off a rebound.
The Blazers cut the lead to 3-1 on a penalty kick in the second half. Errick Sturm closed out LC's scoring by drawing out the goalkeeper, then dribbling around him for a wide open shot into the net for the 4-1 final score.
The Panthers host Guilford on Sunday at 2 p.m.
