Men's Soccer: Panthers blank Talladega 2-0 for first win

LaGrange blanked Talladega 2-0 on Wednesday night at Panther Field for its first win of the season. The Panthers (1-5) got goals from Aristote Pierre and Jeremy Ham to keep the NAIA Tornadoes (0-9) winless.

The Panthers held a 19-12 shot advantage in the game. They had a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Donnie Palmer had four saves in the match.

The Panthers scored in just the sixth minute of the match. Talladega goalkeeper Nelson Zavala misplayed a ball, resulting in a direct free kick for the Panthers. Pierre beat Zavala with a shot to the near post to put the Panthers up 1-0.

Palmer turned away Talladega's Mario Clermont in the 30th minute. It was the only shot on goal in the half for the Tornadoes.

Late in the half, the Panthers put pressure on the Tornadoes' defense. Ham had a header hit the cross bar in the 42nd minute as the Panthers took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Talladega came out in the second half and had three scoring chances in the first 21 minutes. Palmer went up high to deflect Solomon Mensha's shot from the 18 to preserve the lead.

Ham got the Panthers an insurance goal in the 71st minute. Sean Riggs fed the ball into the box and Ham beat goalkeeperDi'Stephano Occila with a header for a 2-0 lead. Occila played the second half in place of Zavala.

The Panthers host Warren Wilson on Saturday at 6 p.m.
