Men's Basketball: Team awards given at annual banquet

The LaGrange men's basketball team held its 2018-19 awards banquet recently. The Panthers went 17-9 during the 2018-19 season, reaching the USA South Tournament for the sixth straight season.

Senior Travis Thompson received the Delma Fowler Team Most Valuable Player Award. Thompson was a USA South All-Conference second team selection. He averaged 13.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game at forward. Thompson shot 51.9 percent from the floor and 78.5 percent from the free throw line. He was third on the team in 3-point field goals (31) and assists (51). Thompson finished his LC career with 943 points and 491 rebounds.

Senior Jalen McCallum was selected for the Nick Mitchell Most Improved Player Award and the Cecil Major Defensive Award. McCallum was named to the All-Conference third team after averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He led the team and was fifth in the conference in rebounding. McCallum was first in the conference with 95 blocks, setting a new single-season team and conference record. He led NCAA Division III with 3.8 blocks per game. McCallum set a new school career record with 135 blocks. In addition, he was second in the conference in shooting, making 61.1 percent of his shots. 

Senior Jack McCormack was given the Al Mariotti Leadership Award. McCormack played in 24 games with one start, averaging 3.8 points per game. Sophomore Drew Fitschen earned the Glenn Simpson Academic Award, given to the player with the highest GPA on the team. Fitschen is an Exercise Science major. Freshman Porter Law received the Hiram Reeves Dedication Award. 

Seniors Jamison McCray and Elijah Adedoyin were also recognized.

McCray was on the All-Conference second team after leading the team in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. He also led the team in field goal attempts (268) and field goals made (133). McCray was fourth in the conference with an 84.7 free throw percentage (81-of-96). He finished his career with 873 points. 

Adedoyin was the team's representative on the USA South All-Sportsmanship team. He played in all 26 games with 15 starts. He averaged 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Adedoyin was fifth on the team with 37 assists.
