BEREA, Ky. - LaGrange cruised by Berea 99-78 in a USA South game Saturday. The Panthers (15-7, 11-4 USA South) stopped a three-game losing streak in sweeping the season series from the Mountaineers (11-11, 6-9 USA South).
Julian Cameron led six LC players in double figures with 17 points. Jack McCormack had 15 points, Travis Thompson and Jamison McCray 14 each, Ronald Youngblood 11, and Jalen McCallum 10. The Panther bench scored 51 points in the game.
"It was a good day today. As coaches you always want to have a good week of practice and then go out and execute what you practiced," Coach Kendal Wallace said. "We did that. We got better this week and it showed today. I was very proud of us by limiting our turnovers and rebounding well. We also shared the ball much better than we have in the last five games. We need to continue today's offensive attack and tighten up our defense down the stretch."
The Mountaineers led briefly at the start of the game. McCray's 3-pointer broke a 6-6 tie and the Panthers never trailed again. McCormack was 4-for-4 shooting 3's in the half as the Panthers led 57-43 at the break. LC put the game out of reach in the first seven minutes of the second half. The Panthers stretched their lead to 30, 80-50, when McCormack made three free throws. Wallace emptied the bench as all 16 on the roster saw playing time.
The Panthers play at Maryville on Sunday in a key USA South game. The two teams are tied for second in the West Divison with 11-4 conference records. LC won the first meeting 86-75 on Jan. 6.
