RALEIGH, N.C. - William Peace overtook LaGrange in the second half for a 92-78 win in a USA South game Sunday. The loss ended the Panthers' eight-game winning streak.
"Today's game was tough. William Peace is playing well right now," said Coach Kendal Wallace. "We ran out of gas in the second half. They didn't. We have been playing great basketball but didn't do that today. After the game we reflected on what we did positive and are ready to get back to work in practice on Tuesday to prepare for Methodist."
LC (14-5, 10-2 USA South) had five players in double figures, led by Gary Bishop's 16 points. Jalen McCallum and Jamison McCray each had 14 points, Lincoln Anderson 13, and Travis Thompson 10. McCallum had 5 blocks in the game and is now two shy of breaking Randy Hagerdon's season mark of 79 set during the 1993-94 season.
LC led 41-33 at the half. The Panthers were leading 56-48 with 13 minutes remaining. The Pacers (9-10, 5-6 USA South) ran off 11 straight points to take the lead for good, 59-56, midway through the second half.
The Panthers host Methodist on Friday and Covenant on Saturday in USA South games.
