Men's Basketball: Panthers clip Pfeiffer for eighth straight win

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - LaGrange clipped Pfeiffer 99-97 in a USA South game Saturday. The eighth straight win upped the Panthers' record to 14-4 overall and 10-1 in USA South play. LC moved within a half-game of West Division leader Covenant, who lost its first conference game of the season Saturday.

Jamison McCray led five Panthers in double figures with 22 points off the bench. McCray has averaged 18.6 points per game in his last seven games as a sixth man. Travis Thompson had 17 points, Gary Bishop and Julian Cameron 16, and Jalen McCallum 14.

LC overcame making just 10-of-25 from the free throw line in the game. The Panthers shot 58.7 perecent from the floor, incluing hitting 15-of-28 from 3-point range. McCray and Thompson each made 4-of-6 treys.

The Panthers scored the first eight points of the game. Julian Cameron's 3-pointer gave LC its biggest lead of the first half, 54-41, with two minutes left. Pfeiffer (9-9, 4-7 USA South) cut the deficit to six, 54-48, by halftime.

The Falcons briefly led three times in the second half. McCray's jumper in the lane put the Panthers ahead to stay, 72-71, with 12 minutes left. LC led by as many as nine points the rest of the way. 

The Panthers play at William Peace in a USA South game Sunday. It will be LC's fourth straight conference road game. The Panthers return to Mariotti Gym on Feb. 1 to take on Methodist.
