Men's Basketball: Panthers picked second in USA South West Division preseason coach's poll

The LaGrange men's basketball team is second in the USA South West Division preseason coach's poll as released by the conference office. The Panthers were 13-13 last season and 8-8 in conference play.

Head coach Kendal Wallace begins his eighth season leading the Panthers. Wallace has a 110-83 record with the Panthers, leading them to four NCAA tournament appearances and three USA South Tournament titles.

LC has 14 players returning and 13 newcomers. Senior Travis Thompson is the team's leading returning scorer. Thompson averaged 12.9 points and a team-leading 7.5 rebounds per game last season. Fellow senior Jamison McCray averaged 11.6 points per game and led the team with 35 3-pointers.

Maryville, the defending conference tournament and West Division champion, was first in the poll with 36 points and six first place votes. The Panthers followed with 28 points and one first place vote. Covenant and Piedmont tied for third with 22 points each. 

The 2019 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament will once again be conducted exclusively on campus sites. The top-four seeded teams from each division will advance to the tournament.

The Panthers open the 2018-19 season Nov. 17 against Rose-Hulman at the Rhodes Tip-Off Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee.
