The LaGrange men's basketball team handed out team awards for the 2016-17 season recently at its annual banquet. The Panthers went 18-11, winning their third USA South Tournament championship in the past four years and advancing to the NCAA Division III national tournament for the fourth straight year.
Senior Justyn Olson received the Delma Fowler Team Most Valuable Player and Al Mariotti Leadership awards. Olson led the Panthers in scoring, averaging 14.7 points per game. He also led the team in assists (87), steals (72), field goals attempted (334), field goals made (141), free throws attempted (138), free throws made (101), and 3-point field goal percentage (42.0). Olson finished his LC career with 1,226 points. He is third with 180 steals and ninth with 229 assists on the school career lists.
Junior Alex Bonner received the Cecil Major Defensive Award for the second straight season. He was the USA South Tournament Most Valuable Player. Bonner averaged 12.9 points per game, shot a team best 51.9 percent, and led the team in rebounding, averaging 5.9 per game. He was second on the team with 58 assists and 34 steals.
Sophomore Elijah Adedoyin earned the Glenn Simpson Academic Award. Adedoyin had a 3.653 grade point average for the 2016-17 academic year. He averaged 11.9 points per game during the season. Adedoyin was second in free throw percentage (.750), free throws attempted (108), free throws made (81), and 3-point field goals made (47).
Junior Michael McCauley received the Hiram Reeves Dedication Award. McCauley was the team's representative on the USA South All-Sportsmanship team. He played in all 29 games and tied for fourth on the team in rebounding, averaging 3.7 per game.
