FERRUM, Va.- LaGrange fell to hot-shooting Ferrum 100-76 in a USA South game Saturday.
Despite the loss, the Panthers (13-5, 4-3 USA South) remain just one game back of four teams tied for the conference lead with 5-2 marks. The Panthers play at one of the co-leaders, Averett, on Sunday.
Ferrum shot 70.8 percent in the second half after the two teams were tied 35-35 at halftime. The Panthers were held to 35.2 percent shooting in the game.
In the first half, the Panthers trailed by as many as 10 points. They were down 33-26 with under three minutes left in the half.
Olson and Elijah Adedoyin each made a pair of free throws to make it 33-30. Mark Wagner hit a three-pointer to tie the game, then made two free throws to put the Panthers up 35-33. The host Panthers tied the game with two free throws of their own with a second remaining.
The Panthers never regained the lead in the second half. Vanderbrook's trey got the Panthers within four, 54-50, with 9:56 left, but they would not get any closer the rest of the way.
The Panthers set a season-high with 31 free throws made and tied another high with 40 free throw attempts. Ferrum was 36-of-49 at the free throw line, as the two teams were called for a total of 62 fouls in the game.
After the game at Averett on Sunday, the Panthers return home next weekend to host N.C. Wesleyan and William Peace in USA South games.
