PENSACOLA, Fla. - Pensacola Christian outlasted LaGrange 92-87 in a non-conference game Saturday.
The Panthers (1-1) had three starters in double figures. Senior guard Braxton Ford led LC with 20 points. Mark Wagner followed with 19 and Justyn Olson had 15. Alex Bonner had 11 points off the bench.
"Today's game was a tough loss. We took one on the chin," said Coach Kendal Wallace. "When we shoot poorly from the free throw line and 3-point line its always going to be a struggle.
"That was a good Eagle team, but we beat ourselves today. We need to work better as a team and knock down open shots."
Pensacola Christian shot 57.4 percent in the game. The Panthers shot 40.3 percent from the floor and made 26-of-40 from the line.
The game was close throughout. The Panthers' largest lead was six points four minutes into the game. The Eagles led by as many as seven in the first half before leading 42-39 at halftime. The game was tied five times and there were seven lead changes.
Wagner tied the game at 42 with a 3-pointer to open the second half. Ford's trey gave the Panthers their only lead of the second half, 45-44.
Jared Henderson made the second of two free throws to tie the game for the last time, 64-64, with 9:37 left. Joel Thomas, who led all scorers with 21 points, iced the game for the Eagles with two free throws with nine seconds left for the 92-87 final.
The Panthers open the home portion of their schedule Tuesday, when they host the Eagles of Toccoa Falls on Tuesday in Mariotti Gym at 7 p.m.
