Golf: Panthers finish wire-to-wire win at Chick-fil-A Invitational

ROME, Ga. - LaGrange completed a wire-to-wire win at the Chick-fil-A Invitational on Tuesday at the Stonebridge Golf Club. The Panthers, in their final tournament of the fall, had a final round score of 304 for a tournament total of 589, five strokes ahead of Huntingdon B. Tournament host Berry, Birmingham-Southern, and Texas Lutheran rounded out the top five. The Panthers had a three-shot lead after Monday's first round.

Junior Ben Womack completed an outstanding fall with his second first place finish in the individual standings. Womack, who also won at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational, tied with Emory's Michael Rosenbloom for low medalist. He had a final round 1-over par 73 for an even par 144 total. Womack, starting his round on the 10th hole, was 2-under par on his round after the first nine holes. He dropped four strokes before a birdie on the 8th hole, followed by a par to close out the round. 

Sam Rogers earned All-Tournament honors with a third place finish. Rogers shot a 75 on the day and had a tournament total of 146. Nathan Garner gave the Panthers three finishers in the top 10. Garner tied for ninth, shooting a 78 for the round and 150 for the tournament. Thomas Bird also had a final round 78 and 152 total. Cameron Starr had a tournament total of 160.

The tournament win was the first for LC since winning the Jekyll Island Invitational in the spring of 2016.
