Ben Womack is the USA South Golfer of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8. The junior won the individual title at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational for his first collegiate championship.
Womack had rounds of 69 and 67 over the Royal Lakes Country Club course to win by one stroke over Hampden-Sydney's John Hatcher Ferguson and Alex Rubino with an 8-under par total of 136. Ferguson was tied with Womack, but bogeyed the par 5 18th hole. Womack had six birdies against only one bogey. For the tournament, he had 10 birdies and only two bogeys. The 67 tied for his career low, set last fall at the Golfweek Fall Invitational. Womack became the first LC golfer to have back-to-back sub 70 rounds since Logan Lanier did it in the first and second rounds of the 2016 Jekyll Island Invitational. He is also the first to win a tournament since Lanier won the USA South championship in 2017. Womack helped LC to a tie for fifth in the team standings.
