Golf: Ben Womack tied for seventh after first round of Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - Junior Ben Womack fired a first round 69 to lead LaGrange at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational on Monday. The Panthers had team total of 289 and are tied with Birmingham-Southern for eighth in the 18-team field.

Womack recorded only one bogey over the par 72 Royal Lakes Country Club course. He started his round on the course's back nine, shooting a 2-under 36. Womack added birdies on the par 5 10th-hole and par 4 6th-hole. 

Sam Rogers is tied for 22nd after shooting an even par 72. He had an eagle on the par 5 10th, and three birdies overall. Nathan Garner was a shot back of Rogers with a 73. Garner got off to a slow start, shooting 3-over on his first nine holes. He put together three birdies in five holes on the front nine. Cameron Starr (75) and Jay Adams (79) rounded out the scoring for LC.

Hampden-Sydney is the tournament leader by two shots over Guilford. Tournament host Oglethorpe is tied with Babson for third. California Lutheran is fifth. The Panthers are just four shots behind California Lutheran. The tournament concludes Tuesday.
