Golf: Panthers third after first round of USA South Tournament

LaGrange is third after the first round of the USA South Tournament on Thursday at Highland Country Club. The Panthers had a team total of 291 over the par 72 course.

Huntingdon leads with a score of 277, with Methodist one shot back in second. The Panthers are one shot ahead of N.C. Wesleyan and two shots in front of Averett.

Sophomore Sam Rogers led LC with a 2-under par 70 to tie for eighth in the individual standings. Fellow sophomore Ben Womack is two shots back after an even par round of 72, with freshman Mathias Andersen another shot back after a 73. Rogers, Womack, and Andersen all recorded eagle 3s on the par 5 10th hole. Freshman Thomas Bird and senior Rob Simpson each shot 76.

The Panthers begin teeing off at 9:50 on Friday for the second round. The tournament concludes Saturday.
