Golf: Panthers surge to tie for fourth at Chick-fil-A Invitational

ROME, Ga. - The LaGrange golf team closed out its fall schedule by tying for fourth at the Chick-fil-A Invitational played at the Stonebridge Golf Club. The Panthers had a two-day total of 600. LC was 10th in the standings after the first round.

Sophomore Ben Womack and freshman Mathias Andersen led the team in the tournament. Womack and Andersen each shot first round scores of 4-over par 76. In the second round, Womack had a 1-under 71 to lead the team with Andersen a shot back with a 72. Womack tied for 11th with a 147 total, moving up 23 places in the individual standings. Andersen tied for 13th, one shot back with a 148 total. Junior Nathan Garner had four straight birdies on the back nine and finished with a 73 and 151 total. Sophomore Sam Rogers led LC on the first day with a 3-over par 75. He had three pars, eagle 3s on the two back nine par 5s, five birdies, five bogeys, two double-bogeys, and a triple-bogey. Rogers shot 82 in the second round for a 157 total. Senior Rob Simpson shot back-to-back rounds of 79 for a 158 total.

The Panthers open their 2019 spring schedule with a the Callaway Gardens Collegiate Invitational in Pine Mountain.
