The LaGrange golf team finished fourth at the USA South Tournament on Saturday at Highland Country Club. The Panthers had a final round team score of 298, tying for the second lowest team round of the day, and a tournament total of 902.
N.C. Wesleyan won the tournament with third-ranked Methodist second and second-ranked Huntingdon third. LC was just six shots back of Huntingdon. The Panthers were followed by Maryville, No. 14 Greensboro, Piedmont, Ferrum, and Averett.
Freshman Sam Rogers moved up 12 spots in the individual standings with a final round 2-under 70 to tie for eighth. Rogers' round was the lowest of the tournament for the Panthers and the second lowest of the final round. He had six birdies on his round and played the difficult back nine at 2-under par. Fellow freshman Ben Womack shot a final round 74 to tie for 11th, two shots back of Rogers. Womack had an eagle 3 on the par 5 16th hole. Jack Nelson, the Panthers' lone senior, carded his second 73 of the tournament to tie for 16th. Cameron Starr had a final round 81 for a 235 total, while Nathan Garner finished with an 84 for a 239 total.
