Golf: Lanier takes over first in individual standings; Panthers remain in fourth at USA South Tournament

Senior Logan Lanier took over first place in the individual standings, as LaGrange remained in fourth place after the second round of the USA South Tournament on Friday at Highland Country Club.

The Panthers had a team score of 300 for a two-day total of 593. The team leaderboard remained unchanged from the first round. Greensboro holds a two-shot lead over Methodist. Huntingdon is in third, four shots in front of LC.

Lanier was the only golfer to break par on Friday. He shot his second straight 2-under par 70 for a 140 total. Lanier was one over on his round through 10 holes. He closed out his day with three birdies over the final eight holes, including back-to-back ones on 15 and 16. First round leader Mariano Silvestri, playing in the threesome with Lanier, is one stroke back with a 141 total. Silvestri had a six shot lead over Lanier through nine, but went 5-over par on the back nine to finish with a 74.

Freshman Drew Duffie followed Lanier for the second straight day with a 3-over par 75 for a 147 total. Senior Osborn Theam had a 76 and is at 150. Junior Eric Havixbeck and senior Anthony Scolapio each had 79s. Scolapio recorded an eagle 3 at the par 5 seventh hole.

The tournament ends Saturday.
