Golf: Panthers in fourth place after first round of USA South Tournament

The LaGrange golf team is fourth after the first round of the USA South Tournament, played Thursday at the Highland Country Club.

The Panthers had a team score of 293 over the par 72 course. They are just seven shots back of first round leader Greensboro. Methodist is second and Huntingdon is only one shot ahead of LC.

Senior Logan Lanier is tied for third in the individual standings. Lanier had a 2-under par round of 70. He birdied two of the last three holes. Freshman Drew Duffie shot an even par 72 and is tied for ninth.

Senior Osborn Theam followed Duffie with a round of 2-over 74. Eric Havixbeck (77) and Anthony Scolapio (80) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.

The tournament continues tomorrow and concludes Saturday.
