The Golf Coaches Association of America in conjunction with Golf Pride Grips yesterday named LaGrange College Head Golf Coach Lee Richter as Region Coach of the Year.
This season Richter led the second-ranked Panthers to their second straight USA South conference championship and eighth appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, where they finished as runners-up.
Earlier, he was named the USA South Coach of the Year and as one of five finalists for the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year Award.
Having just completed his 22nd season, Richter is the first LaGrange coach to be selected as a conference coach of the year. He guided the Panthers to three tournament wins and eight top-five finishes this season, helping the team enter the USA South Tournament as the top seed and defending champion.
With the honor, Richter represents the Southeast Region of the country. Joining him as NCAA Division III regional honorees are Miles Nolan, Rensselaer, Northeast; Andy Tompkos, Franklin & Marshall, Mid-Atlantic; Jeff Roope, Wittenberg, Great Lakes; Jim Ott, Illinois Wesleyan, Central; and Butch Edge, Redlands, West.
